Hi Friends! Happy 2022! Hope everyone is well. If you’re like me, work and life tends to be a combination of in-person and virtual events. I’m always searching for tops that I can wear for a variety of occasions whether it’s a blouse to wear for work, or a cute top to wear out to dinner or for an event. I’m loving the “deep cyan” color of this long sleeve pleated front blouse. It’s the perfect pop of color if you have to jump on a virtual work call or are going out somewhere. This blouse is made out of a non-wrinkly nylon material and is super comfortable. Pull it down as a tunic over leggings, wear with jeans or even dress it up over a pencil skirt. It comes in a variety of sizes and pretty jewel tone colors. It does run true to size.
Feeling like a Khaleesi
“I’ve got a needle of my own.” It’s an eyeshadow brush designed to resemble Arya Stark’s sword Needle. It is one of two eyeshadow brushes sold in Urban Decay’s new Game of Thrones cosmetic line. The other brush is Jon Snow’s Longclaw sword complete with sparkly red eyes. The limited edition collection originally launched April 14, 2019 and seems to be successful as the line sold out on Urban Decay’s website within 24 hours. The eyeshadow brushes sold out in about 12 minutes. There are lipsticks named after Sansa, Cersei, Daenerys, and White Walker, a Mother of Dragons highlighter pallet, a lip & cheek stain called “Dracarys,” eyeliner gel pencils, and a colorful eyeshadow pallet.
This review will focus on the items I was able to buy online – the brushes and the eyeshadow pallet. The eyeshadow pallet arrived in packaging that resembles an actual book covered in Game of Thrones imagery. When you open the pallet, there is a large mirror on the left and a quote from Daenerys Targaryen on the right with map of Westeros and Essos in the background. Lift up the tab at the bottom and a pop-up throne appears – yes you get your own mini throne! On the right side of the package is another tab where the actual pallet is stored. There are twenty colors divided into four sections that are all GoT themed. Most shades are sparkly and metallic; there are three matte colors. I wish there were more mattes to combine and layer with the metallics.
Here are a few looks I created using the eyeshadows –
I used Urban Decay’s Primer Potion on my eyes as a base for all of these looks. I always put a matte shadow over my eye base so I used a pale pink of my own. Then I wet an eyeliner brush and used Weirwood Leaves as eyeliner. I left a line, but you can blend the color out too. Weirwood Leaves is a deep plum color and was easy to use. I used Stormborn and Bend the Knee in the creases and on the eyelids. Next, the shimmery pink Bay of Dragons as a highlighter under the brow line and a tiny bit of King’s Landing on the inner corners of the eyes. Finally, I blended Weirwood Leaves as liner on the bottom of my eyes.
To intensify that same look, I placed Lannister Red in the upper crease of the eyes. This isn’t a color I’d normally choose, but it looks great on and blends very well. I used the Longclaw brush to add House Lannister on the brow bone and placed Winterfell on the inner corners of my eyes. Winterfell looks like a deep dark gold thick pewter-ish shade. The eyeshadow is actually much lighter in consistency than it appears and looks beautiful when applied as a highlighter or layered over other shadows. Use a flat brush like Needle when applying Winterfell.
To create a fierce White Walker themed look, I used Take the Black as my liner and Frozen North all over my eye lids. It’s a strong beautiful peacock blue color, so to make the design a little less heavy and to open my eyes I added Free Folk in the inner corners (placed over Frozen North). These shadows layer well. I originally tried Hardhome as a highlighter over Frozen North, but it did not blend and of all the pallet shadows Hardhome is probably my least favorite. I completed the design with black liquid liner over Take the Black. You can make all these looks bolder by adding lashes.
The entire Urban Decay Game of Thrones collection will be available online at Sephora and Ulta beginning April 29, 2019 and in stores May 2, 2019. It is trendy, but if you’re a Game of Thrones fan and love makeup I recommend checking out the items in the collection. The makeup colors are fun and the package design is really something!
Happy Holidays
Holiday dressing is about luxe fabrics, textures and of course sparkle! Velvet, a traditional holiday fabric, was prevalent in accessories and adornments during late summer/early fall. It continues to be fashionable for Holiday 2017; even more so than in previous years.
My new favorite holiday dress is the crushed velvet one below by Nanette Lepore. I love the bold color and the asymmetrical neckline. I styled the dress with statement earrings from Henri Bendel and L.K. Bennett brushed gold sandals.
If you don’t feel like buying anything new this holiday season, take a look in your closet. You may be surprised what you find. I discovered this velvet shirt dress that I haven’t worn in years, but is so similar to a BCBG shirt dress that’s currently sold. It’s on trend, and now I have another dress option for this time of year.
A very Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes in 2018!
Luxury handbags made in Italy
Are you looking for a new handbag or a unique gift for someone? A good friend of mine, Marilyn Alioto Bloom, and Serajean Ferrara Alioto have been designing luxury handbags for numerous years. Their brand, Serajean Ferrara, is well known for their high quality elegant bags. The handbags and wallets are handmade by leather artisans near Florence, Italy. Each bag is specially designed with distinct features. The Serajean Ferrara woven collection is made up of a variety of styles from wallets to shoulder bags, to totes, to hobos made of the finest leather. The bags are designed with spacious compartments, zip pockets, leather lined interiors, and some handbags come with interchangeable straps making the purses very versatile.
I really love the Serajean Ferrara handbag pictured above because it can be worn so many ways. It’s great for travel because it can be used as a handbag or a wallet. The interior features three sections, a sewn in zip coin purse, and sewn in credit card holders. The bag comes with two straps: a metal chain strap – perfect for evening; and a leather strap – for a daytime crossbody look. I also like that it can be used as a clutch purse.
As you can see in the photo below, Serajean Ferrara handbags are available in many colors and textures. Marilyn and Serajean design and create new bags each season. One of their new collections is embossed leather bags.

Outfit of the Day
In my last post, I highlighted an Italian brand called Falconeri. They have over 70 retail locations throughout Italy plus a few stores in other countries like Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Russia. Falconeri uses natural yarns and fabrics. They are most famous for their cashmere and knitwear clothing for men and women. I visited their newest store in Rome on Via Condotti. All of the dresses, tops, and sweaters were so pretty. The knits feel so light and look great on.
In the photo above, I’m wearing a Falconeri v-neck navy metallic knit empire waist top with matching metallic knit wrap. I love the Falconeri wrap because it’s so versatile. It opens up as a full wrap/shawl and it can also be worn as a scarf. The pieces are classic, yet the metallic knit material makes them very on trend for fall.
Opulent Elegance for Fall 2016
On a recent trip to Rome, I toured some of the world’s most fashionable high-end stores near and in the Piazza di Spagna and on famous streets like Via dei Condotti (a.k.a. Via Condotti). All of the retailers were highlighting their pre-fall and fall 2016 designs. There were a number of fall fashion trends I noticed while walking around these stores. (I hate to use the word “stores” because most of these are iconic brands and the spaces were more like fashion museums than retailers). Some trends I observed that I hope we all can be inspired by as we plan our fall wardrobes include: rich textures, lace, knits, prints, pearls, bold colors, embellishments, appliqués, patent leather, metallics, and basically anything that sparkles.
The photos below were taken at the Chanel store in Rome. These gorgeous, glamorous, and ultra feminine looks are from the pre-fall 2016 Chanel Métiers d’Art show held at Cinecittà studios last year. Karl Lagerfeld titled the collection Paris in Rome. The collection is full of metallic knits, tweed dresses and capes, and lace detailing on dresses as well as black lace tights. Chanel signature pearls adorn accessories like long necklaces, cuff bracelets and shoes.
The metallic trend was also evident at Miu Miu on Via Condotti. Metallic matelassé leather bags decorated with bejeweled chains are very popular. Miu Miu’s patent leather shoes are on trend for fall. Miu Miu has updated the classic black patent pump by adding different ankle ribbon ties in black and gingham making the shoes very interesting. Red is another color shoe option instead of black for fall. The red crystal-embellished patent leather ballerina flat below is so princess-like.
Patent leather crystal embellished pumps were also on display at the Dolce & Gabbana store. In addition to black, these shoes were available in green. Many dresses including the long sleeve chiffon gown in the photos below were designed in a green and white print inspired by a botanical garden in Palermo. Another fashion trend I observed at Dolce & Gabbana, was lace designed accessories. The winter 2017 Rainbow Lace Collection was exhibited in the store. The variety of lace shoe colors and plexiglass material on the clutches give this collection a touch of ‘80s glam. The pumps are adorned with crystal brooches and range in price depending on the heel height ($845-$1195).
Fancy embellished shoes are not only for adults, they are for children too. Giuseppe Zanotti even sells fancy shoes for children like the pink and crystal sneakers in the photo below. Many of the Giuseppe Zanotti stilettos for fall are red.
At Gucci, bags for fall are bejeweled and embellished. Colorful stones and rhinestone appliqués decorate the latest Gucci Dionysus shoulder bags. Other Dionysus style bags are decorated with pink flower prints, embroidery, and lace designs. Golden hardware on top of handle bags is also a trend at Gucci.
Another classic Italian luxury brand on Via Condotti is Max Mara. Although the colors at Max Mara were a little more subdued (beige, neutrals, black) than the bold bright colors at other brands, metallics were incorporated into many of their clothing looks. For example, a long pleated metallic skirt was on display in the store window. Fur collars were used at Max Mara to accessorize sweaters. One of Max Mara’s most well known pieces is the 101801 Icon Coat designed in 1981 that is still chic today.
Falconeri, a sophisticated well known brand throughout Italy opened a store on Via Condotti in May 2016. Their clothing is easy to wear and is made with all natural fabrics. Metallic knit shift dresses, skirts, tops, and cardigans make up Falconeri’s pre-fall and fall lines.
I visited the Valentino flagship store which was re-opened in 2015. It is one of the largest stores in Piazza di Spagna. The interior of this two story space is very museum-like. The walls are gray marble and it is a bit stark, but each piece of clothing and accessory is displayed as a piece of art. This season’s lobby exhibition featured looks from Valentino’s pre-fall 2016 collection. Bags and totes from this collection are ornamented with signature Valentino rockstud accents and gold or silver hardware. Some of the bluish gray leather bags are decorated with large turquoise colored studs. Many of the fall dresses at Valentino are bluish gray or have that color in the print. The Japanese Butterfly embroidered lace dress on the mannequin in the photos below is one example. It also displays the lace and embroidery trends. Next to the lace dress, is Valentino’s famous butterfly print in a midi dress. Also exhibited in the store was a long sleeve tulle gown that costs nearly $25,000. The gown was embellished with tiny glass beads that were sewn onto the tulle.
I had an amazing time visiting all these stores and discovering what’s new in fashion. I hope you will incorporate some of these stylish fashion trends into your own look for fall. Remember to shop for clothing in luxurious textures and fabrics. Choose shoes and bags that are decorated with embellishment. Fall’s fashion sneakers are super glam too- the more jewels the better. Lastly, the main fashion statement I observed while in Italy is to wear red lipstick – always a classic beauty staple.
